I'm yet to get involved myself, fiddling with automation on other sports at the moment...
If a trainer has 2 first time out winners out of 3, those winners must have been fairly fit to have won, indicating that his training methods get horses ready first time, even if the 67% strike rate doesn't mean anything.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 6:07 pmThis is what I don't understand about you guys that know the horses, in a sport with so many variables, how does 4 horses in 5 years make any sort of meaningful sample ?
Incidently the above data ( 2 winners on debut from 3 runners aged 4 or over ) was taken out of a large sample ( i.e. Every horse from that stable which made its racecourse debut in the last 5 years .. i.e. Mainly 2/3 yo .)ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 6:07 pmThis is what I don't understand about you guys that know the horses, in a sport with so many variables, how does 4 horses in 5 years make any sort of meaningful sample ?
The fact that a horse is kept in training at 4 years , but still hasn't set foot on a racecourse is significant .. but many trainers wouldn't have them readied for there debut .. or select a race that where they had a high expectency of winning

As I say trainer stats relating to there modus operandi intrigue me , my "guilty please" I suppose .. as dare I say it trading can be somewhat repetitive !!, and knowing something of the horses , trainers , jockeys etc , can help alleviate that, and make it all the more enjoyable .

Hopefully said in jest .. Most owners would be happy to have a horse like old Samtu ... 7 wins and 14 places from 49 runs .. on turf, Firbesand and over hurdles. Yes he's a hard ride , but clearly has problems , has bled in the past and suffered intermittent lameness.invisiblelayer wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 5:12 pmgraphs all over the shop the last race at Southwell, Scrafton and that pig Samtu![]()
He's 7 yo now and has won at least once in each year for the past 4 years and has won nearly £45,000 in win and place money. He's a good old stick and his handicap mark shows he runs to a consistant level of form.

Good for you, that would definitely make everything going on much more interesting. I just can't seem to retain more than the very basics of who's any good. It's a massive amount of info for someone with a shockingly bad memory. I struggle remembering both players in a tennis match let alone 1000s of horses.
I have that problem, which is one of the reasons why I switched to trading.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 1:02 amGood for you, that would definitely make everything going on much more interesting. There's far too much racing on to keep on top of form. Why spend all evening reviewing the day's racing, making notes, all night studying tomorrow's racing, all day watching racing when you can just spend day and night making money trading.

Don't factor a horse owners happiness levels into anything when pricing races up means nothing to me, useless information. I respect that he's been a decent dual purpose horse and has been consistent generally across his career but you'll do well identifying before the masses horses running like pigs, dogs, ponces, mincers, call them what you wish whether its a physical or mental issue. I know it doesn't come across calling them names if just a fan that doesn't bet but I couldn't care lessHalliday wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 11:14 pmHopefully said in jest ..
