If you wind the clock back to the start of this contest you will find the following top three favourites

Rebecca Ferguson 4.90
Matt Cardle 5.00
One Direction 5.90

Cher Lloyd was priced at 10.50

You could have dutched the top four for a 30%+ profit.

Isn't dutching a risky strategy unless you know that the favourites are value bets?

It was just an observation for the future.

I actually laid chunks of the field to get a profit on this occasion.

Thanks for the clarification.

I was just wondering whether dutching was a useful trading strategy, assuming you don't know the true odds of the selections you're dutching.

I use all sorts of strategies to profit and dutching is commonly used for tournaments of which X-Factor is a derivative of a tournament.

I should add, it's not a value play just a view on how the tournament may play out and the chance to catch bigger odds that shorten. By doing this on more than one runner you get a much better chance of catching a profit. It's an any X from X scenario.
