They just want to slow down the spread, delay and reduce the peak. Things should start to return to normal after enough people have been infected and recovered.

yeah, it's gonna be tough. also, premiums and additional smallprint on new policies will make things a lot tougher moving fwd. not a business for the faint hearted, the good times (for insurance) ended in 2020 - in hindsight!!

that will a long time, if really majority of people in england get it and at least 5% need extensive care how long you think they will need to "flatten the curve" to deal with at least 2 million people in hospitals?

Like football, the liquidity will just flow into other markets, AUS, singapore, UAE, US and greyhounds so long as they keep going

I recall Peter asking an insurance CEO or executive how he reconciles his anti-gambling views with the insurance business, the response being that insurance is necessary, sports gambling isn't. Might seem more like a flutter on the horses now!

By the way, BJ has been accused of protecting the insurance companies at the expense of the theatres by advising but not forcing closure, denying them the opportunity to claim for lost revenue.

As I understood it the reason for this was that the laws are not currently in place to allow the government to force closure, hence the advice. He therefore can't do what he isn't able to.
