Pat, on a technical issue I think you will find that, as described, is an "alternative vote" system (also known as an Instant-runoff voting system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting) and not "proportional representation"! Proportional representation is how the MEP's are elected (nominated).Trader Pat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 5:27 pmWe have a proportional representation system so when we vote we can choose to give a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc... preference to another candidate on the ballot. It means if our number 1 choice doesn't need our vote ( because they've been elected with a surplus of votes or eliminated from the count) then your vote goes to your second choice and so on down the ballot paper.

Some believe the USA is heading for some kind of civil war regardless of who wins the election.

That's cos the Democrats remember that Hilary Clinton's poor health was a key factor to her loss, as she stumbled to her car at an event. (around the 0.40 mark)

Also If Biden tripped arse over tit, then that might increase his popular vote even more...
Always worth a reminder of the result of the 2016 by US states and turnover....

I just looked it up and didn't realise I didn't give it its full title, I should have said 'proportional representation with a single transferrable vote'firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 6:09 amPat, on a technical issue I think you will find that, as described, is an "alternative vote" system (also known as an Instant-runoff voting system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting) and not "proportional representation"! the definition seems more complicated than any of the issues are likely to be!
