Whats happened to Ukraine crisis thread?

Just get rid of "General Discussion" entirely. There are thousands of other places online where people can rant about politics. This forum should be exclusively about sports trading and using Bet Angel. There would be little or no need for moderation.

I've often wondered if we should do that. That area was originally created to get that sort of discussion out of the trading threads.

On the trading threads, there are some great discussions and insights. Less so on the more general topics!

So I guess we need to look at that.

Me neither on this occasion but I'm guessing it was more conspiracy theory BS or maybe some particularly nasty insult. Any serious issue that gets discussed usually ends up going down the conspiracy theory route for whatever reason which is a shame. I'm sure there are people on the forum who would like to post about these topics but when they see the direction these threads go, they just roll their eyes and don't bother.

It stopped being a debate and descended into name calling and swearing. Couple of people needed to step back from the keyboard for a while.

People need to ultimately be held accountable for their actions, plain and simple. Otherwise this will only incentivize nastiness, if people know someone is going to clean up their mess afterwards.

I used to be one of those myself that got involved in non-trading related threads......until I became a full-time tweeter

There will be crossovers with political markets of course. The next biggy is French Presidential race, but I think BA would benefit from keeping comments relevant to issues affecting the market and potential price movements, as opposed to throwing personal views into the mix

The problem isn't the subject, I think most people on here are capable of debating, discussing and disagreeing on all kinds of issues without it getting personal.

Let's be honest, the more general threads that get shut down are usually because of the same people spreading conspiracy BS or going too far with their trolling and insults.

How would you police a 'trading only' forum anyway? That seems like a very big job for the moderators.

haven't been keeping up with the Forum too much of late, but I have to say, much of the bad vibes do originate from James. he just does seem to take it to another level and potentially does get some sort of attention from it all. i definitely think there should be a USB breathaliser kit on amazon, would be a huge timesaver for the admins

I'm not one for bans per se, but maybe setting up an area where posters can be excluded on a temporary basis might be the way to go. that way, sensible and humoured discussions can take place without the fear of sabotage.

and james - in all seriousness, either get help or self exclude from discussions for a bit.

With all the aggression in the world right now, a bit more humility might be useful. I don't think James being pilloried is right. I've detected a real effort on his part to not upset people. But it seems a spat turned into something a lot worse.
Personally I launched into a few of these threads that went wrong. And as a result of the guilt/embarassment decided I would double-check everything before posting.
You cannot imagine the number I have penned then ditched.

Personally I hope that thread is in the bin and never ends back up on the forum. People of course have a right to discuss what they like and if that means a constant regurgitation of MSM news, then so be it… I often find myself wondering if it’s a competition between some… how fast can you can consume it from your T.V and repeat it on here.

Tbh the Ukraine Crisis thread upset me, & I made it clear very early on too. How can we be so tunnel visioned just because of what’s 25/7 news. We’ve seen conflicts around the world for decades, many of them caused by us in the West, but not one forum thread in solidarity for Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya etc… but we needed some thread for Ukraine to show our solidarity.

Don’t start twisting it either, it doesn’t mean I’m some sort of Pro Russia guy… I’m pro life & that includes Russian people alongside every other person in the world.

I will openly admit that I will purposely antagonise Derek but if we’re all to be honest, doesn’t Derek enjoy doing a bit of the same from time to time… just my boundaries of acceptable don’t exist.

I can assure you Kai my mental health is good, you can sleep easy… as for some repeated drinking problem, the only problem I see is the accusation, so because I’m an attention seeking antagonist, I play to it. I will drink and I’ve posted lots of bs when I’ve had a drink, the last being Am I God?. I posted it playing to the comments made about me when I said I was going out for a few drinks… but wasn’t in some drunken spat Sunday, the only person who had obviously had a few and was in a spat was Derek.

For those that call for me to be banned, if you get your wish I’d just like you to know that it shows nothing more than just how sad and tiny you’re… you’re offended by some hurty words that you don’t have to read… offended by a person that you’re given a foe button to ignore. Hide behind Peter and his power to ban me rather than confront me head on… no bother, it says a lot about your characters as grown men… maybe men really can be women after all, explains you hiding behind other men asking them to get rid of the bad man for you.

Whatever is decided by Peter or any other moderator I will respect… I have a great deal of admiration for those guys, they have people like me antagonising fragile people. I can only imagine the amount of drama and crying they have to put up with behind the scenes. I don’t have one bad word to say about any of the BA team regardless of my ability to post here and tbh, what does it matter… not like I wanna be in the race to be the first to regurgitate what I’ve just watched on the news.

Let's be honest, the more general threads that get shut down are usually because of the same people spreading conspiracy BS or going too far with their trolling and insults.

That's more or less the only reason we take them offline.

People should have the right to debate and discuss, even tomatoes and the like!

It's perfectly possible to disagree without insults.
