When I said 'normal' salt I meant sea salt. Is that a sign I've gone all middle class? Shot me now.
Strictly speaking, it's the end of meteorological summer, but the days are still longer than the nights until equinox and warm sunny weather forecast for the first few days of September where I am, 24ºC. :D

For me 31st August is last day of summer, I know you can get very pleasant and warm days right through mid October but this will stand and I feel wistful as May, June and July are my fave months

I replied to the wrong post.

Last year we had a cold and miserable September, it felt more like November. But going back over the last 10-15 years we've had a few very mild Octobers with 21ºC highs and some mild December/Januarys with temperatures in the mid-teens. We could really do with a mild one this winter.

Indeed so. Much as I respect Martin Lewis's output, being given a calculator that confirms my own calc that my energy bills will rise from 111 to 199 a month is still a strangely annoying.
Lets hope for an Indian summer (assuming that's not a non-PC phrase, of course, did google it but got bored v.quickly). And a mild winter, although I could do with a harsh winter to reduce the pigeon count.
Good grief they are so plentiful now. My tree-cutter said pigeons are a pain, They breed like rabbits and all year round, so are a real obstacle to tree-pruning as its illegal to disturb a nest.
My problem with pigeons is the incessant cooing. When do they actually flipping feed? And why do they have to have a coing contest while I'm trying to extract the last dregs of sleep from the early morning.
Flipping good job for them that I don't own a gun.
OK that's quite a tangental post but, hell, this is Rantsville! :-)

Wow talk about protecting your brand. MrsW has been telling me that one of her clients has had 3 interviews at Hermés HQ in Paris just to be allowed into the outlets, and even then you can't choose just anything you want, they'll only sell you what they think suits you! Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing I guess. I looked in their window today and saw a fabulous coat..... £19,000

Weird isn't it? I don't decry the spending ability of someone that has earned a lot of money. I just wish they'd spend it more wisely.
And I'm sure some will respond that whoever made that £19k coat is gainfully employed.
But are those skills not better employed somewhere else?
This is one of the weaknesses of democratic capitalism.
(Let's ignore for the moment Russian autocratic, kleptocratic, oligarchy).
Anyone that can afford a £19k coat should be paying hefty tax. But because of smart accountants, probably aren't.

Somebody's scooped £110M on the Euro lottery. I just pray it's not one of those idiots who've held me up at the tobacco kiosk.

The Pakistan flood maps that Sky show would have you believe the flood stops at the Afghan border!

They say inflation is 11% but catfood, coffee, it's all going up 50%! I'm dreading the day when beer goes up, it must surely cost them a lot more to produce and transport.

I may be a new cat owner soon so I read with interest the price of cat food increasing.

It's the milk that has caught me by surprise 6 months ago still available in Poundland at 4 pints for £1

To be more pragmatic, I can't really pay £14 for a pack of beer, £10 for a pack of cigs, £3.25 for a pizza and then complain that a box of cat food, that will last 12 days is too expensive. :)

Hate seeing Youtube Shorts everywhere, it's my latest pet peeve, their new feature where the shared video content cannot exceed the 60 seconds limit (mimicking TikTok), because apparently that's how bad our lazy attention span has gotten. There's efficiency and then there's... whatever this is.

Even the likes of Roy Dalio have to resort to shorts to get their msgs across : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Hbty1NI6c

A neighbour of mine just asked me if I can show him my game sometime.

"What game?", I replied.

I'm used to having my path blocked by dozy old women, completely oblivious to the universe around them, but an 18-year-old store worker!! She looked through me as though I didn't exist!
