and just to add, it always used to be the case that the income the government then received for the Crown Estates etc always far outweighed the amount given in the old Civil List. Those rules were not hers, if you want to blame someone then take it up with Cromwell and Parliament of that period.
The arrangement was the Queen or King would stay in place but never be allowed to directly become involved in politics. For that sacrifice he or she got some benefits.
There are many on here who don’t pay tax plus some other professions where tax is not liable. I remember in the 1990s waiting at an airport in Norway and talking to a load of Oil and Gas workers. None of them paid tax because of an arrangement between the UK and certain countries around offshore working. I am sure there are some other types of work too where no tax is paid.
If you want to change things then write to your MP or run for Parliament yourself.
Personally, I don’t care how much the Queen costs me as I would rather give it to her than the government of the day.
