Yep. Let's just say that I used to work for a "fairly large" financial institution which disappeared overnight along with the jobs of 10s of 1000s of its employees. That's the problem these days with the traditional middle class route. There are few professions you can go into these days where you're more or less guaranteed a nice job for life.

Job security is an illusion from my point of view now. I think security in life comes from a person building their skills and experience so that they can deal with whatever pops up in their path.
