Kane has three 3 pens.

Keepers right usually hard.
Down the middle.
Keepers left not as hard sometimes gets side netting with right foot curl.

He was never gonna go down the middle as its asking for trouble in such a game.

So he has two options.

imo he went go to first up as a rightfooter. He tried to repeat the trick. He was brave. No penalty goalscoring midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard to share duties. He blasted it and lost his technique a bit. Sport eh?
Interesting point about technique. Kane is the most technique centric English striker right now. I've see him spin on a sixpence and slot low into the bottom corner.
Pen's are evidently different. But even so he's pretty good. People wil point at previous penalty takers as being better, but the goalies they face now are bigger and more dynamic too.

One more issue. Lloris would have read the bodyshape for the second (after seeing the first) and knew he was going keepers right which is why he went the correct way on the second. He would have also known if he was going keepers left on the second as slightly different body shape. So Kane had to execute cleanly or go down the middle. Neither of which happened sadly for England fans.

Update...Just watched both in slo mo again. Lloris guessed on the first. Waited a bit more on the second. Down the middle Panenka save could have seen effigies outside pubs. Lloris kept himself central enough on the second to cover the middle.

Depends if they used their go to penalty on the first one.
Don't see why? Lloris will be well aware of his go to penalty before the first one

There's no logical reason to me why taking and scoring a clean penalty earlier in a game would lead to a decrease in the chances of scoring a 2nd later in the game (especially in this instance where by both players are very familiar with each other)

Shaka Hislop today suggested he went for a repeat performance but then Lloris forced him to change his mind and he went more middle and it sailed over.
Anyway if the kicker knew he was taking 2 pens then imo he would use his go to first up much less and keep his powder dry for the second. Because there were 2 pens Kane overthought it like against Frankfurt. (like I am overthinking this) Just execute like the first and it goes in. It looked like he was caught in two minds or was trying to psyche the keeper out on the second. That scenario doesn't really crop up in a 1 pen match

I think its just more mental baggage. There was no other option for England though. I just think that you can out think yourself on the second and perform sub optimally.... (which imo is what happened Saturday)

I remember Cantona taking two pens in a game poss FA cup QF or SF and put it in the same place both times. Clarity of thought and execution is what you need. So as a keeper you can cheat a yard from the middle towards the takers strong side and ask a different question. But you hardly ever see that happen. It might come into the game more though.

If you lay two teams for the WC that get knocked out in different rounds and still have outstanding bets, how does commission work?

Do you get charged commission upon settlement of the winning lay bets or does Betfair wait until the final settlement and P/L is known before charging commission?

So far I've only had losing back bets. The losses are entered on my statement but then deleted with a new accumulated entry after each additional settlement.

Low goal expectancy match according to the OU odds.

Don't see why Croatia can't wear their usual colours.

Argentina down to 2.04 for WC! Surely will be the outsider in the final against France.

probably haven’t sold enough 2nd choice shirts Derek, it happens a lot, seen competitive games where both teams have worn their away strips, Eng v Fra ‘82 springs to mind..
