There's so much money in football now and ref decisions have never been more important, but you have this expensive product where everything was entirely in the hands of underpaid (and thus incompetent) individuals

So they brought in VAR to ensure those expensive decisions are correct, which came at an annoying cost of being a killjoy

But for EPL this doesn't even work yet since the decisions are still wrong, so we get the worst of both worlds

What's the solution. Get rid of VAR ? Pay refs more ?

I don't know, it's not my job to find a solution

But I don't think it's worth getting all that weekly abuse as a ref while somehow getting paid less than traders, players/managers don't respect them because compared to them they work minimum wage jobs

If the modern game is too fast for refs then automate offsides instantly before they score the goal and before we celebrate, linesmen would still have a role but the automated system would get it right and no player complaining needed since not a subjective decision

And kill VAR for being a killjoy, the amount of wrong decisions is still the same? Maybe even managers would get sacked less if they had more excuses at their disposal :)

Can't find Paqueta in the "Player shown a card" market, looks like Betfair actually removed him!

5 yellow cards so far at HT, 4 of which came from fouls and one player got booked for arguing

Guess who!

Frustrating when you've been looking forward to the first match of the night and you get taken out in 3 minutes.

If VAR was scrapped tomorrow the same people moaning about it would be moaning about all the obvious decisions the refs get wrong.
Can't win
Agreed but to me the problem with the way VAR is used is that the 'obvious error' requirement is ignored and the VAR team look for the tiniest infringement! The obvious one is Offside ... there is no way that to be 1mm offside is an "obvious error". Look at how cricket apply the technology ... generally the umpire has to be incorrect by half the width of the ball (OK, you then get 1mm over or under half the width of the ball but it still leaves a margin for 'obvious' and before anyone chips-in I'm not looking for half the width of a football! :))

As someone else said, the solution may be to give each team x reviews per match and let them decide when to use them maybe excluding offsides.

That said I'm not sure how confident the current VAR incumbents are at getting the decision right when called upon to do so.

Mason Mount to leave Man U suppose the only question is what took them so long. No club in England will take him on they'll be outrage and rightly so. A very lucky man that the girl in question asked the police no to press charges and withdrew her evidence but the video was very damming.

Probably end up in Saudi they won't care about his treatment of women.

Not me if VAR went you won't catching me saying VAR would of disallowed that or give penalty for that for the simple reason even with VAR they can't get decisions right in fact they can't even decide when VAR should or shouldn't be used with 5 people sat round tv screens with this clear and obvious error rubbish as they can't define what a clear and obvious error is. Fails at the 1st hurdle.

They need to scrap this clear and obvious error nonsense and review everything red cards, pens, off-sides or just don't use it at all.

You mean Greenwood, of course. But this whole destruction of someone's career (with no criminality proven) is quite disturbing. It's a bit like the medieval witch ducking.
Ched Evans springs to mind, convicted, not guilty on appeal, but his own evidence for me categorises him as a total scumbag. But justice says he's not guilty, but his career has been ruined.

Social media is already the biggest source of 'news' for many, and now seems to be becoming more important than the justice system too. A dangerous and slippery slope.

Good to see common sense isn't completely dead yet

It would have been a new level of shitstorm

Such an easy PR win too and they almost bottle it
