I know it goes with the territory but twice today and twice yesterday I have had profitable traded races turned into nasty losses by somebody lumping on with about 1 min to the off.

This was a real killer

15:25 Haydock

2nd fav - Royal Rational

Laid at 6.8 and drifted nicely out to 7.6.... I am starting to exit out for a nice green when.....BOOOOM

10k comes on at 7.0 and while I am pondering this the money moves again and shortens the price into 6.0 where the cash stays until well after the off.

Anyone else see this ......

Oh and the horse finished outside the top 3

Probably irrelevant where the horse finished if they were offsetting liability.

You were on the wrong side this time, you might be on the right side next time... (I'm ALWAYS on the wrong side) you just have to take the hit and move on as there's nothing you can do about it.

It always interests me who makes these huge spikes and why?

Is it bookies laying off?
Is it somebody whose offsetting fires in a large bet?
Or is it a speculative trader trying to send the market in a certain direction?

It happens in football too, a classic example was the last round of world cup matches

Peru v Bolivia - Peru had been steadily backed all day, reaching a low of 1.77. This went back to 1.80 with 15mins until kick off. Then from nowhere, Peru were layed at 1.84 for £50,000!
By kick-off they were trading at 2.08

I'd love to know when these spikes are going to hit, but like I say, I'd love to know where they originate from

Ive noticed this a lot the last few days too, usually with 30 seconds to go , sometimes on fav, sometimes on 2nd or 3rd. I think its just some made punter, but I guess it could be bookies, although, wouldnt they do it every race?

I've always wondered if there a people out there with big enough bankrolls to manipulate the market in such a way intentionally.

Oh Oh Looks like mr big Bet might be back today.

Somebody was trying to get a lot of money matched on Fassaroe in The 13:05 at Uttoxeter.

Again trying to get backed for a shorter price after the off

Wiped my days profit out, which for a novice (or any) trader is pretty f*cking annoying.

I tend to be out by the last minute, is this when most of you are getting caught?
