Same in my town. We are fortunate to have really good temporary and semi-permanent facilities for homeless here, yet there are still quite a few who choose to stay camped in the high street.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 3:24 pmOn the homeless point. I do know 3 veterans living on the streets in Brighton. All 3 have been offered accommodation by the council and help by other agencies. But for a number of complex reasons prefer to be outside, as strange as that may sound.
So, as far as those 3 are concerned they are making a choice although I appreciate it may not be a straightforward situation to deal with.

I suspect it's mainly mental health problems that would make somebody "choose" to live on the streets, or fear of an unknown environment, after years of being used to living rough.
Many young women have reported being abused in sheltered accommodation; drug addicts often say it's impossible to stay clean in night shelters with the amount of drug-taking going on.
The only lifestyle choice is being a bitch - that's Braverman's choice.

Yes of course she said it, that's not in dispute ... what is in dispute is she said that about those who have chosen not to accept help ... they are choosing!

I have nothing more to say than what I have already said ... if you choose to misunderstand regardless of unwilling to understand or not able to is a matter for you.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 12:38 pmAbsolute bollocks. She said, "But we cannot allow our streets to be taken over by rows of tents occupied by people, many of them from abroad, living on the streets as a lifestyle choice".
She doesn't say what "many" is or offer any evidence of how many. She says they're "from" abroad, and as we all know, she doesn't like people from abroad, even though she is herself, and she doesn't say how many of them have a home abroad but make a choice to sleep rough over here.
There are a lot of Ukrainians who live rough after the Homes for Ukrainians scheme ended. Is fleeing the war and living rough a lifestyle choice?
Not if it's a result of mental health problems, or as Chris Bryant said, brain injuries. That's not their choice.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:08 pmYes of course she said it, that's not in dispute ... what is in dispute is she said that about those who have chosen not to accept help ... they are choosing!

Oh dear do I really have to explain things yet again ... I don't have the time, sorry.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 12:42 pmEvidence for what? Her legal power to make tents on streets illegal, the fact that I wouldn't complain, her delusions or lack of shelter?firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:50 amAnd your evidence for that is ...? or is it just another unfounded statement of bias?

Thank you Archery, that is exactly my point that Derek cannot seem to take on board.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 3:24 pmOn the homeless point. Of course you have nothing more to say, because the only answer you can give to the above question is no, which proves coming from abroad and living on our streets is not a lifestyle choice. Perhaps it's time to get back in your coffin.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:11 pmI have nothing more to say than what I have already said ... if you choose to misunderstand regardless of unwilling to understand or not able to is a matter for you.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 12:38 pmAbsolute bollocks. If you can't explain yourself don't bother replying. You've got a habit of asking vague questions that only makes sense to you. None of us are mind-readers on here. If you expect people to understand you when you can't even answer a multiple-choice question no harder than you get on an 11 plus exam, the problem is squarely with you.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:13 pmOh dear do I really have to explain things yet again ... But you can always tell a loser, they base their comments on what they claim the other party is thinking with no basis or proof embellished with empty insults. Keep up the loser comments Derek!

I've fully taken on board Archery's post in my subsequent post. No I didn't miss it I just couldn't see the point of responding to it, you just confirmed that Braverman's comment re choice was correct.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:25 pmI've fully taken on board Archery's post in my subsequent post. Fair enough, that makes sense. You think being raped/sexually abused and forced onto the street is a lifestyle choice. I can see where you're coming from now, and perhaps that's what Bitch Braverman thinks as well.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:31 pmNo I didn't miss it I just couldn't see the point of responding to it, you just confirmed that Braverman's comment re choice was correct.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:25 pmI've fully taken on board Archery's post in my subsequent post. To be honest I would be very happy living in a tent, not on the streets but in a forest area.
- No family to drop around
- No friends to drop around
- Free food (assuming you know how to kill/cook it)
- No council tax
- No rent or mortgage
- No bills
- No news to listen to
Has allot of benefits I think
I often go wild camping, for days sometimes. I have even found an empty house in a remote wooded area. It’s been like that since 2016. No idea who owns it. Can be rather scary at night, ones mind always plays tricks but keeps you dry during bad weather. Yes I know, it’s trespassing but I doubt plod are going to turn up.
