What on earth is an "illegal immigrant boat"? The people on the boats are asylum seekers, or purporting to be. The only problem with those is that the previous government has created such a backlog of cases to be heard for their own ends to create fear amongst the public. I'd imagine processing their claims will become a priority for the government to either grant asylum or deny and deport. The amount of migrants on those boats has always been negligible in real terms but their political value was always a bonus for the right wing.

The problem is you cant deport them if their asylum case fails. There is no returns agreement with France or other EU states. France already said the UK would need to get an agreement with the EU and it wouldn't be possible to get all 28 members to agree as Spain, Italy, Germany and Hungary have all got problems with migrants.

So, what do you do, put them on planes to Afghanistan or Syria ?, that would cost a fortune and those countries may well not accept them.

The problem, if you want to call it that, is global and nobody has an answer.

The only way you could do that would be to either sink them and/or goto war with the French navy when trying to send them back. Neither of which is going to happen. Basically, there is very little legally that you can do.

Hungary has managed to reduce migrants because of the following:

- Its land locked.
- Errecting fences on its borders. Patrolled by armed guards and dogs.
- Issuing fines and/or imprisonment to any person housing an illegal migrant.
- Issuing fines and/or imprisonment to any company hiring an illegal migrant.
- Paying legal citzens to inform on those housing or hiring an illegal migrant.
- Getting a resident permit means you need to pass an Hungarian history test, in Hungarian. Therefore, most cant pass it.
- Issuing fines and/or imprisonment to anyone helping an illegal migrant apply for asylum including filling out forms.

The EU has recently fined Hungary 200 million Euros for breaking EU asylum laws, guidlines and policies.

When all avenues are closed to them , appeals etc, they can be deported, I'm not talking about returns to a safe country. Between 2010 and 2020 about 40% of failed asylum claim were returned either voluntarily or enforced.

The majority of people coming from Syria, Afghanistan etc are genuine asylum seekers, many have left more more behind than they'll be given by the UK government. There's no denying there are economic migrants but the sooner asylum claims are dealt with the better for everyone , freeing asylum seekers to earn their way rather than simply rely on handouts which only reinforces the notion for some they're only here for benefits..

58-year-old man jailed for three years. He told the court he lost his job, let down his kids and is ashamed of himself. Great, but you'd expect those words to come from a much younger man, not someone with 58 years of life experience!

For a younger man, his rep told the court he's not very clever and doesn't know the difference between far-left and far-right. That is brilliant, add insult and humiliation to the punishment.
