No sarcasm. I do this occasionally when I think there is a significant short term risk to the stock markets. It's usually fairly easy to swap your investment pots around with a couple of days' notice, and moving it into cash for a very short period is a low risk/high reward strategy. I boosted my pot by 30% during the Covid crisis by selling then buying the drop.jimibt wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:59 pmcan't tell if you're being sarcy or not (i.e. heeding advice from a rumour mill)...jamesedwards wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:36 pmOh my God.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 5:10 pm
Looks like the Chancellor Reeves is considering changes to the government's so-called fiscal rules governing how much it can spend which will trap the UK in 'financial black hole'.
Have removed my Pension from UK indices for a few weeks just in case.

that said, heard from a friend (who has a friend of a 3rd cousin [twice removed] in a very high government position) that child benefit was getting scrapped. have removed my penis from all activity until after the budget. conversely, will have to rely on my index for a bit.. lol
Child benefit eligibility currently unfair - should be based on household income.
There's no way it is getting scrapped - if anything more people will be eligible for the benefit by basing it on £120k household income.
You'll probably be able to 'knock' another 'couple' out and still be no worse off

Why not make all benefits simple and employ less people to manage them? As Tony Blah said HMRC basically knows the income of all UK taxpayers so why not get their computer to ID the qualifiers and make the payments by adding a few extra questions to the tax return. Those that are not UK taxpayers stay in the current system.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:49 pmChild benefit eligibility currently unfair - should be based on household income.
