What do they do is important?
Keir Starmer's 'smash gangs' pledge 'in tatters' after 12,900 migrants arrive in 3 months

Looks like they are not doing very much ? 🥱
Do you think this problem can be sorted in 3 months? The Tories had 14 years and pledged several times to deal with it, but failed.
But personally if someone can navigate across Europe and cross the channel in a boat provided by greedy bastards they must be :
a. brave
b. resourceful
c. probably a valuable citizen
c. "Illegal" person

Can a person be illegal?

Think you mean "undocumented".

Or

"a person who entered the country by unconventional means because the Government in charge failed to provide a safe means of application"?

Or

"a person or group of persons whom we can stigmatise for all our failings then use as an excuse to riot"

yup, on occasion, i've been an 'illegal' person. in the early 90's you'd gather in large fields and party thro the night in the hope that the police didn't disrupt your 'illegal' fun 'n frolics.

I thought there is a definition of an illegal person ?

Can’t remember her name but what about that young girl that went to Syria and has since been classed as stateless because the UK government at the time removed her passport…

Begum someone I think... From what I remember making her stateless avoided the need to have a trial in the UK (and would have been classed innocent until proved guilty - with UK rights before & after trial).

Even if you are locked up for committing the most hideous crimes you still aren't classed as an illegal person.

The term is used to dehumanise people or groups & thus justify denying them any rights. Lots of examples in history of this just look to any fascist regime or organisation - the church springs to mind, as does McCarthyism, the Klu Klux Klan & the Daily Telegraph..

PS: shouldn't you be stocking up on wood to see you through the winter?.

Understood.

Already stocked up on wood for the log burner. Plenty of deer and wild pig meat in the freezers.

Labour's freebies is what is winding everybody up and the Conservatives are no different - which is the point the OP was making
With respect the OP's original point was a rant against anything Labour said after coming into power after looking at the books and realising what a s**t show they'd taken on.
MP's taking freebies? Who'd have thunk it!!! Ministers taking freebies? Er ....kerching! Always has been and always will be.
Don't obsess on this issue it is missing the point. What do they do is important? I don't care if Kier is gifted suits, glasses, football hospitality (although envy is strong on that one).
Thus far they have p**sed me off with the winter fuel payment (better ways to do that).
Now they are propsing HS2 back to Euston. Jeez HS2 was a Labour idea and it's just a f**king disaster. It's embarassing.
meanwhile, i still have to make the odd 96 mile detour (literally this is on my doorstep): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c05g0q0z7d6o
That looks horrendous. Presumably it will be better when the works are completed. Is it really worth living there with that degree of complexity. I'm guessing you don't get supermarket deliveries.

"Under the IPPR’s proposals, the Treasury would leave duties untouched on “lower harm” activities, such as the lottery and bingo.

But the proposal would involve doubling taxes such as the 15% general betting duty, levied on high-street bookmakers’ profits.

Remote gaming duty, which affects online operators, is charged at 21% but would be raised to 50% under the IPPR’s plan."

For what it's worth as much as I detest the way they operate and treat punters Gambling Company's pay more than their fair share in tax including the betting levy. Problem with gambling is with all the regulation it's difficult to pass on any cost to customers so it'll hit them in the pocket. Labour are getting desperate now, everyone and everything is already taxed to death.

Question needs to be asked to Labour & Tory over the past 30 years as tax payers (public and businesses) where has our money gone?

A s a side note Angles Rayner just cost the country a 1 billion pound investment today by not being able to keep her mouth shut, unbelievable how she's Deputy PM and completely unqualified and incompetent to the role but she actually openly celebrates the fact.
