And what they did was nowt to do with those young people that lost their lives. It was an excuse for good old English summerr hooliganism, stoked by extremists who spot these opportunities to create mayhem using folk that should know better. When the police moved from hands-off containment to active arrests the agitators melted away and left the rest to their fate.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:45 pmThese people are ultra far right.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:14 amSo why did those charged in the recent 'riots' with no previous record get prison sentences?greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 9:53 amWhen it comes to trial if that's all true, if he's considered previously law abiding he'll escape prison but will be a criminal. Totally happy for people to get sent to prison for looting or criminal damage, but not for verbal abuse or writing something nasty on Twitter.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:17 pmAnd what they did was nowt to do with those young people that lost their lives. I understand what you mean about Twitter. It seems that malevolent genie is on the loose. There are people using social media as a weapon. Hard to get the punishment proportionate though.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:42 pmTotally happy for people to get sent to prison for looting or criminal damage, but not for verbal abuse or writing something nasty on Twitter.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:17 pmAnd what they did was nowt to do with those young people that lost their lives. "ultra far right" = People who's views I disagree with!
Could you explain/define "ultra far right" please.

Or in the case of the siege on the Birmingham pub the police just melted away. But that was understandable seeing as the aggressors weren't white and labelled "far right" so clearly no crime was being committed!

Not convinced about that one....jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:42 pm

Perfectly reasonable to take into account the harm done and impact on others. A bit more taking responsibility for actions would be good instead of the hiding behind a keyboard.
Some of these people utterly ruin others lives and should be held to account for it.
Prison maybe just for extreme cases... Or bring back the stocks...

How about this novel idea ... people take responsibility for their own lives and their own behaviours/actions. All a provocateur can do is suggest an action, they can't force people to do as they say. The final decision is down to you (not you personally sionascaigsionascaig wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 8:35 amPerfectly reasonable to take into account the harm done and impact on others. People need to grow up and say "NO, I will not do that".
(just a shame there is so much hate out there)

Absolutely in favour of taking responsibility for actions, including those people hiding behind a keyboard.sionascaig wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 8:35 amNot convinced about that one....jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:42 pm
