In what reality does this make sense!
I think the tories are toast for another 2 terms.
Yup. Can't see them shifting popularity of Reform for some time. Conservatives look a great lay at that price unless Reform joins forces..

edit - and following that logic, Cons come in a bit (maybe), Reform shoots out.... Looks like a lay / lay to me...

If the right wing get their act together then Labour haven't got a hope in 2029. Don't forget Starmer actually got less votes than 2019 Corbyn and only won by default due to the Conservative/Reform split vote.

Totally happy for people to get sent to prison for looting or criminal damage, but not for verbal abuse or writing something nasty on Twitter.
Increasingly uncomfortable with the anti-riot sentencing being handed out.

27 months in prison for "shouting incendiary and racist remarks at police"? No weapon. No violence.

Maybe some account was taken for 14 previous convictions involving 30 offences (including assaults)?

Bringing along an 11yo child was clearly icing on the cake.

I don't know what the right level of punishment should be but don't see any problem giving the same level of punishment to those egging on v's those doing especially when they are in the same crowd.

it's maybe just me as a lefty huggy tree loving mutha funkin progressive, BUT - other than the *clients* history, doesn't the racist language display an element of verbal assault and ultimately, someone in need of a damn good cuddle?? - oh, c'mere ya we foul mouthed rogue (cheek pinching icon)!!

Its exemplary justice and it has shown to work.

Nevertheless I do have qualms about it myself. I don't think that anyone should be jailed for a tweet however vile the sentiments expressed. I don't agree with that.

Let this person out today. Should not have been incarcerated.

I really don’t understand why you get a conviction let alone a prison sentence for hurling verbal abuse at anyone.

Can’t remember the number of football matches I have been to where verbal abuse is evident to players, referees and the police. You can see it every week on TV with members of the crowed doing wanker gestures. Isn’t that an offence ?

Physical abuse and blocking emergency vehicle's then yes, lock them up.

Be interesting to see what Mike Amesbury gets if found guilty, I see he's been charged with common assult so probably be a fine and bound over for 2 years.

If that is the case when you're putting people in jail for Facebook posts and then your own MP attacks a member of the public and continues the attack while there defenceless and on the floor doesn't get jail Starmer will have to answer, he'll get absolutely rinsed.

+ 1

Verbal abuse = Caution at worse.
Physical abuse = HMP.

What was that saying “sticks and stones but names will never hurt me”. The society snowflakes have obviously become very weak since I was at school in the 1980s.

Most of the social media stuff will be people who had a few sherbets and posting s@ite, that's not a criminal offence in my eyes never mind jail.

Plus what happens in a few years time with AI anticipating what you’re going to type on forums. It might completely get it wrong. Same as driverless cars, who is actually to blame if something goes wrong etc. it’s all going to end in a nightmare for lawyers and the court system.

“I didn’t type that. But it came from your IP Sir, wasn’t me, go back and check AI that forum is using Judge”
