A British manufacturing company has said it will close down its four factories because of Rachel Reeves’s Budget.
Kevin Hancock, managing director of Connectix Cabling Systems, said the Chancellor’s national insurance tax raid and lifting of the national minimum wage had made manufacturing in Britain “not viable”.

Nine boats carrying 572 people were intercepted crossing the Channel on Saturday, according to the Home Office.
This bring the total number of migrants to arrive so far this year to 32,691 which is up 22% on the same time last year (26,699)
And there's nowt we can do about it
Shocking

But why do so many risk the crossing? What do they get in the UK that they don't in France?ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 12:18 pmNine boats carrying 572 people were intercepted crossing the Channel on Saturday, according to the Home Office.

Is our benefits system really that much softer? Or is it our poor control of illegal workers? Or people speak English better than French?

UK
- Whether you can be entitled to benefits depends on your immigration status and whether you meet the presence and residence rules for the benefit you want
- You'll usually get £49.18 for each person in your household. This will help you pay for things you need like food, clothing and toiletries.
France
- You are entitled to the same social security benefits as French nationals. You have the right to work in France. You have the right to family reunification. You have the possibility of obtaining French nationality through naturalization.

I reckon the main attraction the UK has on poorer places are that people are wrongly led to believe by the gangs that we're all rich here. Just look at the Vitamise migrants that sadly suffocated to death in a lorry. Many of them borrowed and paid £100K for the journey. How many months/years did they think they'd have to work for on minimum wage to earn that back?ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 12:54 pmAll what you said + Hotels, Benefits, Council Houses etcjamesedwards wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 12:43 pmBut why do so many risk the crossing? They certainly didn't pay £100K to live off benefits in a council house!

First thing that springs to mind is that £100k is allot of money in Vietnam. Who are they borrowing it off, family and friends ? If yes then I would borrow it of them and then piss off and disappear in Vietnam or Cambodia. Live like a king.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 1:14 pmI reckon the main attraction the UK has on poorer places are that people are wrongly led to believe by the gangs that we're all rich here. To me, none of it makes sense, there must be another reason they risking their lives. I have often wondered are they being drug mules maybe. Either swallowing it or dumping it in sealed waterproof bags just before they hit the cost or are intercepted. Gangs UK side then recover the parcels later.
Again, no idea what the motivation is, doesn’t make sense.
