I doubt there will be any time to announce it.

All they need to do is hit infrastructure, national grid and power stations at the same time.

That will cause chaos. The 16 to 30 year olds will shit themselves and run for the hills or to mum and dad.

The UK could not repel such an attack and there are next to none bunkers available for Joe Public.

Looting would become rife. No law and order. Mass killings.

The only place that would probably be safe is London as there is a plan in place to protect central London. But due to lack of resources everywhere outside the capital would effectively be on their own.

21st century and Putin's stategy is not about socialist development, but Nazi-esque violent expansionism. The irony of him accusing Ukraine of nazism is incredible.

If you’re in a country with no bunkers, then book yourself a flight to this location. It might not offer much against modern day Nukes but better than nothing, especially in the UK, which offers nothing.

I think maybe Firlandsfarm was a teenager back then?

Anyway, I don't really get the prepper mindset but I remember my history. The two biggest close call incidents that come to mind are the false nuclear alarm during the 80s (?), and the nuclear submarine officer Vasily Arkhipov saving the day, but those days are long gone and different protocols are in place today.

Surely more sensible to take a page out of this man's book

Switzerland has enough fallout shelters to house every single resident. There are thousands of shelters in Swiss homes. In fact, by law, each person in the country is entitled to a place of shelter underground, calculated at one square meter per person.
