Because he was actually challenging for the ball. Mistimed and clumsy but it's called football for a reason. There is normally a ball involved. Studs on top of boots break metatarsals. Studs on top of boots with no ball involved then you are rolling the dice.
I think the red for Lewis-Skelly was very harsh. If you're going to examine every decision in high detail, it was clearly not a red card. Cynical and deliberate? Yes. Did it endanger the opponent? No.
Man C have been doing this for years so maybe this is why the refs are getting less tolerant.

I note you don't seem to consider a fair tackle as a 'level', says a lot! Anyway, I still don't see much difference between Lewis-Skelly and Gomes. Gomes clearly stamped on the top of the player's foot while Lewis-Skelly's boot followed the line of the player's leg but hardly touched it before landing on the foot. I wouldn't consider myself an expert but have yet to hear an 'expert' agree he should have seen red ... even Dermot Gallagher on Sky didn't agree with the red. Frustrating with Serie A games on 9s bet delay seems to be the norm now. I have no patience to sit for 9s to open a bet then another 9s to close it, it's an absolute eternity more or less kills scalping stone dead as well.
