UK Government has just banned meat and diary imports from the EU.
I could understand Halal and Kosher meat imports being banned on the basis that they do not meet our animal welfare standards, but regular meat and dairy? any particular reason why?

is there a foot-and-mouth outbreak somewhere in the EU?

are the banned imports personal imports or commercial imports?

Only personal traveller imports, due to the foot and mouth outbreak.

I worked in a central capacity for a major high street brand for many years. I can assure you that many retailers have systems held together with brown paper and plenty of sticky-back plastic.

I seemed to spend half my time reconciling billing issues with your former employer.

Worryingly, you can bet your arse that Betfair has more sticky back plastic than many.

It is believed that hackers impersonated employees while contacting the retailers' IT help desks to gain access to the network in all three cases, M&S, Co-Op, Harrods.

Not much chance of 'hacking' BF as you can't contact anybody in the help desk easily 🐱💻

I think it was employee IT helpdesks. eg resetting staff system log-in passwords etc.

Jaguar Land Rover warns ‘it will take weeks to recover’ after crippling cyber attack as customers are left in limbo

This is pretty catastrophic for JLR. It comes hot on the heels of concerns about the electric vehicle transition and being hit by Trump tariffs.

“The hit to profits is going to be in the region of £5million a day. And the longer this goes on, the worse this hit will be - and the greater the likelihood that customers will go elsewhere.”

Jaguar Land Rover in talks over taxpayer-backed rescue deal for suppliers
