Another aspect worth considering are the Scottish & Welsh elections next year.

If labour do badly in Scotland (say come 3rd to Reform) & lose Wales (which they have dominated for so long), then Stammer could be toast & the game is truly afoot !

Corbyn/Sultana party is degenerating into a bit of a shit show already. So it looks like the greens will be taking up the 'far left' ideology.

From a neutral viewpoint, I think people would vote green given for their focus on the climate. But lurching towards the far left will remove votes from them, I would hypothesise.

Borrowing up £16.2 billion over same period last year (Jan - Aug). Borrowing in August highest for 5 years. Labour's chances in 2029 will weaken further if they don't control borrowing but to do so will need a combination of reducing spending and/or taxing more ... both vote losers.

I can't believe it ... Labour's much criticised leader for being dull speaker gives what was probably his best speech in terms of the degree of power but what are the news channels talking about ... not just the criticism of Nigel Farage but the ridiculous attack from our Foreign Secretary claiming a link between Farage and the Hitler Youth!! If I was Starmer I would be livid that Lammy made such a comment and negatively stolen the content of his speech. Here's a bet you won't find a market for ... Nigel Farage is the most mentioned name across all the conferences!

I think that's the problem with Labour governments, they always give me the impression they are just permanently thinking about ways to raise taxes. That's all... It doesn't matter whether it makes sense or not, just can we get away with it.

That's why Gambling taxes are coming, a soft target. They don't think people will object to that.

Just noticed that Reform are promising a referendum on Proportional Representation after 100 days. Presumably that means start work on.

Would be interesting if that gets done in time for next election...

(also surprised its not higher up the news agenda)

edit - it would certainly be a big change to future trading markets...

It feels like the country kind of needs it. First past the post only really worked when elections were two horse races, and as politics becomes increasingly fragmented perhaps it's time to move on?
