I often follow the finances of Football Club to give me a clue as to the general direction. It's got a lot harder in recent years because the finances of all of them are just so shot to bits.

For longer term outright bets like promotion or relegation next year it's very useful, especially for the lower leagues. Who's in a position to spend and who's not? Odds for these markets can be swayed too much by current season form/sentiment and often ignore looming negatives.
