Warning!

For some reason, this month Windows has ignored my metered connection settings and has downloaded monthly updates without waiting for my prompt. Some of my devices were sat awaiting restart this morning, and some have restarted themselves overnight.
Same again this month. It seems the 'metered connection' hack no longer works to prevent your PC from restarting without authorisation.
I've discovered there is an option buried away under Windows Update > Advanced Options > Delivery Optimisation that allows update downloads to be shared around from other devices on your network. Perhaps this is how Windows is getting around the metered connection block? I've disabled this option on all my PCs. Will see what happens next month...

Looks like this was the solution! I had no forced updates this month on any of my machines. MS are such sneaky buggers!

Happy Windows Update Wednesday!

I'm busy manually updating and restarting all my machines now in order to try and keep control of restarts in the month ahead.

For some reason my laptop restarted itself overnight on Sunday/Monday just gone for some additional MS updates although no idea why. It's incredible that in 2026 it's still impossible to have 100% control on when your computer switches itself off.

I was 14 hours into a 24 hour code run. Came down this morning to a blank screen. Grrr
