Not as easy as the Labour Party had many believe is it! I never did understand why anyone believed Labour's claims.

... trouble is a lot of people who voted for them had become Tory 'haters' rather than Labour 'lovers'firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2026 2:18 pmNot as easy as the Labour Party had many believe is it! I never did understand why anyone believed Labour's claims.

Healy's Defence Budget was decreased by £4.5b. hence his resignation. At the same time £4.5b is pledged to enhancing/maintaining cycle paths and walking trails ... clearly Labour think cycle paths are more important than the defence of the country ... will Burnham take them down a different route? I can't see them increasing their vote share with such policies.

Hats off to Andy Burnham. He smashed up the Reform vote. If he can do that on a local scale I wonder how far he can take that support into the next General Election?
Labour are now back to favs for most seats...

Burnham's strategy seemed to be just to not make a mistake. That's all that he really did at this by-election. He wouldn't comment or enter into public debate on any of the contentious issues.
It's going to be a bit different when you get into government.
My take on it was that it was personality politics. No real substance during the by-election.
