Yesterday, Carlos Alcaraz announced he was playing in the US Open.

Today, Jannick Sinner has announced that he isn't. What a strange couple of days.

Has there been an increase in injury withdrawals by big names in tennis in recent years or is it recency bias on my part?

I don't recall seeing the big names of long gone days being absent much, Sampras, Agassi, Lendl, Federer always seemed to play week in week out during their respective careers whereas now it seems there's a big name/seed missing from every tournament.

It's quite common in tennis, but I'm pretty sure there haven't been that many major withdrawals from the big stars in recent years. It feels like it's a bit more common all of a sudden.

Prizmic v Shevchenko

Shevchenko almost generational comeback, Prizmic held nerve well 🎾, who will have confidence any time under pump rest of tourney now you'd imagine

Sonego.png
Overall a very grindy day managed to come out just slightly ahead today
What a crack at the No.1 seed from this Sonego chap, he seemed kinda value in the final set for the high # of points won/lost from the last ~50 played vs. price on offer. People kept endlessly backing Zverev in a consistent pattern inbetween games and sets, including 1.82 into 1.67 without 1 point being played at one point, more backing than the england footy team, people disbelieving another giant would fall in R1 I guess

only really got to have a proper go on 5 matches today due to all the rain, had my 1st misclick of tourny so far (-£500 in 0.5sec) plus an unnecessary -£178 on a market I forgot to re-open and hedge after it got rained off and I'd already switched matches, next time I'll only manage 1 position at a time, and need to put a bit more focus into bet timing on ladder to prevent unforced errors

there also seems to be some big punters around this tourney, 5figs often given away at slight value, 1x 6fig donkey bet appeared in Zverev match too, but need to be careful as there are also some clearly very shrewd players firing 5figs in too, although as time passes it's becoming clearer which ones to sit out (or even go with), and which to fade confidently

still puzzled how a market yday matched £6m+ in volume when Djoko and Zverev 5-setters only got £2m-£3m :?:  thought it was cus of the rain and only match on but today broke that idea
