Fergie knows that UEFA are making it so that teams will need to have more home-grown players. So that might be why he's keeping some players who he might normally sell to a team like Preston (if they hadn't sacked his son!

There was a time when lots of people thought a certain Christiano Ronaldo was a waste of a good pair of football boots!

Ferdinand isn't as young as he once was - even Fergie admits that.
And I wonder whether Ferdinand is one of those guys like Beckham who isn't content to just be a footballer, but also wants to be a celebrity, which maybe takes some of his focus off the game.
I won't pretend that all is rosy in the garden, but people have written Man U off time and again over the years, only to be proven wrong...
