It's makes you wonder how smaller tracks like Hereford survive, especially when they lose a meeting through weather

I must admit I dont know much about Horse racing in general, but I would have thought it was relatively easy to put some simple drainage in?

I always wonder about how keen some of these tracks are to cancel, especially during the winter. They receive payments from the HBLB when a meeting is cancelled. In 2011 £710,000 was paid out and in 2010 it was £844,000!

Putting drainage in is not a simple process and is usually very costly, York racecourse recently spent £2.5 million on a new drainage system. You can spike the ground etc cheaply but that won't help much if you have a drainage issue.
