Any lucky punters out there trade the 18.20? The horse that came second traded at 1.01 for over 1k and lost on the line!! Lay of the year foe someone? ;)

In my early days of trading, I used to offer £10 at 1.01 on all horses. It was only a 10p loss, but I actually made a profit over a period of time. It's amazing how many events has a 1.01 'in play' favourite that either drifts in price, or actually loses

That's an amazing piece of info gutuami, where did you get that from?

The results spell out what I noticed a while back when trading with silly amounts

Laying 1.01 can be profitable

Very Interesting.

If we assume only one horse per race lost at 1.01 then that represents about 1.7% of races or very approximately 0.2% of all horses raced in the period.

I don't know if that is good bad or indifferent.

the info I've got is from a database that I made up collecting everyday betfair history prices.
if anybody wants to make some calculations here are some additional info: nr of races: 12830, nr of horses from those races: 140514. In the file 2 stands for dead heat. Don't forget 4-5% bf charge. The 1.01 in the total {150} counts only if it was matched minimum £100...the actual dates are 31.08.09-30.09.09

Matches my data for roughly the same period.

Odds 1.01
Horses 10539
Won 10395
Lost 144

1-9-08 to 6-9-09

Thanks for the further info guys.

That looks like about a 40 point profit over 12 months for Cran's figures. Not bad if you could be sure of matching them all with a bot.

Hi Gutuami

Did your research teach you anything about the market efficiency of Betfair prices?
