I agree.

Despite his portrayal in the media as Mr Angry, Fergie comes across as a very warm and friendly man.

He's also a very articulate man, giving nuanced answers to questions rather than the bland and boring cliches you get from some managers.

IMHO, whether Fergie is correct depends on what you mean by a 'top, top footballer'.

Gerrard has been in the top tier of Premiership footballers for the past 10-15 years, so in that sense he is a 'top, top footballer'.

However, he's never been at the 'all time great' category of some of his contemporaries, such as Zidane, Messi, Ronaldo and Henry.

I doubt many footballing journalists, if asked to pick the best world footballer of the past 10-15 years, would choose Gerrard, so in that sense he isn't a 'top, top footballer'.
