In fairness this is costing betfair as much as anyone.
I'm as frustrated as anyone at what is happening, particularly when the site has completely crashed, but I think it's a mistake to assume that betfair don't have the will to adress this issue as they are the ones who are the really big losers at the moment. It's not just their reputation that's damaged, volume is down considerably every time it happens and they lose many site features such as exchange games etc. Unless BF is being run by masochists I'm sure they are doing all they can to sort the API out. I have said before that we should formally protest etc but let's face it it's not going to make them change their behaviour in any remotely significant way. They know themselves what a difference there is trying to float a company with a stable reliable network verses a company with a network that is completely unreliable, prone to errors and that is hated by many of those that use it.
I think all we can do is hang in there and try to make sure we've got as much back up ready as possible in case the site does go tits up. Mode 1 is perfectly tradeable, I was surprised to make my highest every total on an Irish race this afternoon
I Wonder If.....
Rather odd coincidence last night. I went to see Billy Connolly at the Apollo in Hamersmith. As normal when in that part of town I park just around the corner, but last night the street was full so I had to move on a bit and parked right outside Betfair's offices.
For a laugh I walked around the corner to see if anybody was in, but a 'friendly' security guard was pretty insistant that I should move on. I guess he doesn't use any API software.

You should have kept talking to him, he would have suddenly stopped working after a few minutesBet Angel wrote:Rather odd coincidence last night. I would be keen on being part of an organised mass move to BetDAQ but i'm a little wary as to what would happen if there were a lot of people who took part and that caused problems with BetDAQ's infrastructure. How do we know that BetDAQ is going to be any better than Betfair?

In my opinion... more worrying than Betfair's downtime are their prepotence in treating its customers with no communication but more importantly with their constant new charges.
In the beginning it was easy... and I think everybody was happy. You trade, of what you win you give 5% and we're done. Fair enough.
As someone in this forum said once... we don't really need discounted comissions on winnings if you0re later gonna be charged far more in other way. Fix and simple it's the way to do it, even if they have to got to 6-8%.
Anyway... about the move to BetDaq, it's not that isn't full of problems also. Is what we all dream of but we can't achieve (and won't achieve unless some REAL action from the important people takes place, as sad as that is!
). I'd like Peter and all other known BIG traders with influence to coordinate something, though I understand their position is delicate also.
About the betdaq thing:
1. Do we have any insight info about if betdaq would be able to manage all that new transactions?
2 . A BIG problem I find is that BetDaq doesn't allow below 2€ bets any way you try (at least last time I checked! And I mean to atl east being able to green up, nothing more). This may seem stupid to some but it really limits the amount of small traders which won't be in as they won't be able to green up their small profits. What the hell... everytime I try some new thing I do it with that very low stake (what would be the reason to risk more in something you've never tried before?), and I won't be able to green up. This is a slightly but important fact. Because most of people don't use stakes of 500€...
3. Although BetAngel for BetDaq is free (which is encouraging and thanks for that) it's always behind Betfair's version (which is normal, as that's what's bringing money in). It lacks things we're pretty used to use as a proper Guardian, and more features.
4. If horse racing liquidity is pretty worse in Betdaq than in Betfair... in the rest of sports the difference is far more important. Most soccer matches except the BIG ones, for example, are just plainly untradeable in lots of cases. Not to speak about basketball, or other sports.
So... all in all, we're a little stuck. In part because things we could control (grouping and taking personal action) and some others we might not (betdaq infrastructure and policies about minimum staking, etc).
I have an idea that might work mid-term, so as soon as I have something real on it I'll undoubtedly drop a line here and see what we can do.
Cheers!
