Rejoice! The Daily Express says that fatty food is good for you and that 60 years of medical science is wrong!

They produce some stupid headlines - there have been major medical breakthroughs every day for the past week or so - but that one jumps the shark!

I just hope that no-one uses this as an excuse to gorge on fatty food...

there are studies that dairy products especially milk is bad for your health. So really you don't know who to believe.
***********
According to Dr. Willett, who has done many studies and reviewed the research on this topic, there are many reasons to pass up milk, including:

1. Milk doesn't reduce fractures. Contrary to popular belief, eating dairy products has never been shown to reduce fracture risk. In fact, according to the Nurses' Health Study dairy may increase risk of fractures by 50 percent!

2. Less dairy, better bones. Countries with lowest rates of dairy and calcium consumption (like those in Africa and Asia) have the lowest rates of osteoporosis.

3. Calcium isn't as bone-protective as we thought. Studies of calcium supplementation have shown no benefit in reducing fracture risk. Vitamin D appears to be much more important than calcium in preventing fractures.

4. Calcium may raise cancer risk. Research shows that higher intakes of both calcium and dairy products may increase a man's risk of prostate cancer by 30 to 50 percent. Plus, dairy consumption increases the body's level of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) -- a known cancer promoter.

5. Calcium has benefits that dairy doesn't. Calcium supplements, but not dairy products, may reduce the risk of colon cancer.

6. Not everyone can stomach dairy. About 75 percent of the world's population is genetically unable to properly digest milk and other dairy products -- a problem called lactose intolerance

Due to a health problem, had to cut amongst other things milk. Was somewhat worried about it and read many articles that made me worried for having so much milk before!

Imho that article does have a point and a flaw.

On average, people do eat way too many carbs and poor ones, like plain bread and pasta.

But having too much low quality fat won't do you no good for sure!

Can't be bothered to read the article but I follow a simple diet/lifestyle - it works great and I may even write a book on it, I just need to pad it out a bit:

"Rule 1: Eat anything in moderation.
Rule 2: Match the amount of calories going in to the amount of calories used up each day.
Rule 3: Do an hour of exercise a day"

Guess what, I have stuck to this plan all my life and amazingly I am fit and healthy and not overweight. It really is that simple.

Cheque in the post please.

I couldn't be bothered to read the article either  but there is an awful amount of misinformation out there in the health world.

For instance, the conventional 'wisdom' is that salt is bad for you and that we should avoid it as much as possible, but that only applies to refined table salt (which certainly IS bad for you) but doesn't take into account the fact that natural, raw, unrefined salt (such as Himalayan mountain salt or sea salt or salt found in vegtables) is good for you and essential for celluar function. Most people on a western diet are actually deficient in the salt (the right kind), in spite of the fact that most people consume too much (of the wrong kind)!
