Are Rooney's days at Old Trafford numbered?

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

Interesting. Now Fergie's confirmed that Rooney does want to leave, and it isn't just press speculation, I can't see Rooney staying. Particularly as Fergie also basically accused Rooney of disrespecting the club!

I'd suspected that Rooney wanted to leave because he wasn't playing as much as he'd have liked. But the article says that Fergie found out that Rooney wasn't renewing his contract on the 14th of August, just before the start of the current Premiership season.

I might put a bet on Rooney joining City. I read recently that Colleen Rooney wants to remain in the area, so she can care for her disabled sister. And City are the only club in the North West who will be able to afford Rooney.

I would say it is a way to keep Rooney's value up? It isn't a matter of Rooney wanting to stay or not, it's a matter of Alex Fergusson wanting him to stay or not ;)

I think it's hard to know where Sir Alex is coming from...

One the one hand, when players disrespect him, he generally shows them the door. But maybe special players get special treatment! For example, a Man U player once said that he never once saw Cantona being given the hair dryer treatment!

You don't suppose Sir Alex's humble overtures are designed to get Rooney to sign a new contract so he can sell him in January for a far higher price than he otherwise would have got? ;)

I am confused. Last Monday Rooney transfer worth 70M for MAN UTD, today worth only 35M. Which is the WAYNE ROONEY real value?

He's worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay! :)

I think Rooney's situation will make Man Utd's financial position much clearer

We know they have debts, but we're not sure how serious they are.

Once it becomes clear Rooney's going, selling him to Man City will be a massive, momentous moment - it will show the balance of power in Manchester is shifting

In that circumstance, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Ferguson resign

Only 2 clubs in europe can afford to pay 70M but, at least 12 clubs in europe can afford to pay 35M. Real Madrid earlier statements have vanished. Arsenal clearly stated they are not interested. Chelsea will only offer 20M. Mancini said it `s not his problem. Fergusson stated WE WILL NEVER MAKE THE DEAL WITH MAN CITY. Could Liverpool swoop Torres for Rooney? I can`t wait January... :D :D

£70 million - not worth tuppence ha'penny on current form! Anyone who pays him big money is taking a huge gamble. Reckon that despite all the smoke and mirrors he'll be staying at Old Trafford.

For some reason, Real Madrid commonly deny interest in a player, only to buy him, so I wouldn't read too much into what they say.

I don't think Arsenal could afford Rooney.

I don't know if Rooney would want to move to London. His marriage is under enough strain as it is, without him asking Mrs Rooney to move away from her family! And if Rooney were to join Chelski, either Rooney or another world class player would have to be left out of the starting 11, potentially causing friction in the camp.

Fergie can say he won't make a deal with City all he wants. But if City offer £70 million for Rooney, he can either take it or leave it - in which case Rooney will pay £5 million to buy himself out of his contract come the summer, and go to City anyway. I think it's a no-brainer... :)

The Torres idea is interesting, but whether Rooney will want to join a club that probably won't play in the Champions League next year is debatable...

So all in all, my money's on City.

I think Rooney, like Best, has had too much success too young, and has gone of the rails a bit.

Whatever happens with his career, I hope he gets his head sorted out. It would be great if he could forget about the smoking and the ladies of the night and instead focus on his family and on what made him so successful in the first place - his love of football.

There's no chance of swapping Torres & Rooney

Torres appears an honourable guy, and moving from Liverpool to Man Utd would be considered unthinkable, he'd know that.

Also, say what you like about Rooney, but deep down he's an Evertonian. The prospect of playing at Anfield is a complete no-goer - he hates Liverpool with a passion

If Torres is unhappy at Liverpool and Rooney is unhappy at Man U, a switch could be an honorable win-win situation. But I think Fergie would think 'If Torres is unhappy at Liverpool because they're not winning trophies, is he going to be happy at Man U?'

As regards Rooney moving to Liverpool, he's already broken a major taboo by moving from Everton to Man U, so I'm not sure that would bother him.

That's not totally true

Everton & Man Utd don't have the same rivalry as Utd & Liverpool. The same goes for Man City & Liverpool.

Phil Neville and Tim Howard have shown that moving between United & Everton isn't comparable to Liverpool, so Rooney hasn't broken any taboos there

Whilst I agree they don't have the same rivalry, they are still a local rival.

And Rooney won't have impressed many Everton fans by one week declaring himself 'Once a Blue, always a Blue', and the next heading to Old Trafford...

I'd like to think, though, that most football fans will realise that players have the right to play for whoever they want. It's just a game, after all; it's not like the player is committing treason! :)
