For some reason, Real Madrid commonly deny interest in a player, only to buy him, so I wouldn't read too much into what they say.
I don't think Arsenal could afford Rooney.
I don't know if Rooney would want to move to London. His marriage is under enough strain as it is, without him asking Mrs Rooney to move away from her family! And if Rooney were to join Chelski, either Rooney or another world class player would have to be left out of the starting 11, potentially causing friction in the camp.
Fergie can say he won't make a deal with City all he wants. But if City offer £70 million for Rooney, he can either take it or leave it - in which case Rooney will pay £5 million to buy himself out of his contract come the summer, and go to City anyway. I think it's a no-brainer...
The Torres idea is interesting, but whether Rooney will want to join a club that probably won't play in the Champions League next year is debatable...
So all in all, my money's on City.

Only 2 clubs in europe can afford to pay 70M but, at least 12 clubs in europe can afford to pay 35M. Real Madrid earlier statements have vanished. Arsenal clearly stated they are not interested. Chelsea will only offer 20M. Mancini said it `s not his problem. Fergusson stated WE WILL NEVER MAKE THE DEAL WITH MAN CITY. Could Liverpool swoop Torres for Rooney? I can`t wait January...
