Can't say i didn't see it coming, big tech bubble wrapping peoples minds... I wonder what happens when giants like Facebook, Twitter & Google get to choose what can and can't be said in the Western "free world" - it stinks of them being propaganda tools but of course they're just looking out for us. Well tbh I liked being able to think about whatever I choose to and find like minded people. If I don't like what others had to say I had the choice not to engage or even counter debate. I don't know how anyone can be ok with this. One day its their views, the next its yours.
If you spend half your life on Facebook and in internet chat rooms and forums looking for people who agree with your beliefs / opinions then I could see why you'd be pissed off but most normal and sane people don't so I don't think it matters in the grand scheme of things. If social media vanished tomorrow I couldn't give a toss to be honest, I'm not on Facebook and barely use Twitter.
Twitter is full of idiots you only have to look at what trends on a daily basis to see that, which is a shame because it could have been such a power for good. The absolute best thing about Twitter is everyone gets a chance to voice their opinion, the absolute worst thing about Twitter is everyone exercise's their right to voice that opinion! Even when they have no clue what they're talking about.
Facebook is an interesting one, most of my friends people I grew up with and have known for 20+ years are on Facebook and whenever I've looked at their profiles I find myself asking "Who are these people?" Its so unbelievably fake. Its like profiles on a dating app!
I think Google rather than banning app's where at the end of the day its adults talking about adult things (however nuts they are) would be better focusing on trying to rid the internet of exploitation and abuse. Youtube is another, some of the comments on innocent videos are disgusting and I'm sure it would be fairly simple for an algorithm to be able to detect that kind of stuff and ban the profile responsible but they don't seem bothered.
Big Tech is here to stay and everybody who uses it is guilty of feeding the beast so there's no point people complaining about it unless they're going to completely unplug and go analogue!
