Cheers I went back and read the post, I was just typing what would be the Army's role on the street be and what powers would they have as I've seen a clamour for them but no one has explained what they want them to do and do they have the powers to do what they want them to do. I didn't have a clue and doubted if they could arrest anyone and if someone was injured unintentionally they'd be hell to pay. I agree employing the Army against its own people is plain silly, it'll just inflame things further and draw resentment to the Armed Forces. After the Troubles the Army on the streets of the UK IS the last thing anyone needs or wants to see.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:48 pmok, i did post a long thread, stating the reasons why it wont happen unless its a supporting role to protect buildings while the police arrest everyone. The police cant protect buildings and at the same time try and arrest people.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:36 pmThe real armed forces. No disrespect to the police, but they are outnumbered, overstretched, don't have the tools or resources (don't know why they don't even have a supply of tasers), and clearly aren't able to maintain order.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:32 pm
You mean the army of police officers or real Armed Forces ?
To police a civilised society, you need one police officer to every thousand civilians. To police a restless society that's out of control, you need one in fifty!
If you mean the Armed Forces taking control and getting into punch-ups or using live rounds then that will never happen.
The last time the Army went up against people rioting was 1908. 600 soldiers on horse back, with long swords cut down 200 people. It wasn't a good look back then and it wouldn't be now for the UK in this century.
I'd only want to see the Army on the streets if there we helping in a disaster like flooding or were being invaded.
