Labour have confirmed that the early release scheme forced upon them by the incompetent and irresponsible previous administration will not include jailed rioters. I thought that would be obvious, but the only thing that's obvious is that nothing is obvious to everybody.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:38 pmBoth, I thought that was obvious but hey-hoWho's they, the government or the Daily Mail?

I get people have a need to converse outside of trading, but I'd personally spend my time being productive rather than arguing over immigration, etc.
It's ruining the whole point of this conversation.
EDIT: In fact, how dare you be the sensible one in this circus with a clown for an avatar, frankly I find it both offensive and insulting.

Not worried. I know that song well. I was baffled by your use of it in context. But no problem.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:24 pmSorry, haven't got time, but don't worry about it

Government Minister can’t guarantee rioters won’t be freed early due to lack of prison places and overcrowding.

Prison capacity is not changeable. I see that they are likely to hand out serious sentences from the 780 arrested. 400 plus charged already. But the most serious will take time to convict. Nontheless. Releasing a burglar may seem appalling to some. Not to me. As Michael said if we adopted the Scandi approach repeat offending may well be lower. The rioters have made it inevitable that the govt would make room to lock them up.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 3:23 pmGovernment Minister can’t guarantee rioters won’t be freed early due to lack of prison places and overcrowding.

The've melted away. The far right can't hide amongst a bunch of spectators/sympathatic coalition for very long.
The riot squad have been empowered by this episode. I really don't think the far right have anything to offer the general populace.
They don't believe in democracy so I cannot accept anything they say.
It shouldn't take long to build a temporary prison. The army have to do it to hold POWs. We're just talking about a large cage with a roof, toilets, showers and sleeping quarters. Didn't take them long to build that hospital in London for Covid, and that was more than adequate to hold prisoners.

just build prisons, even temporary ones because of existing planning laws and public objections. The current process takes years and who wants to live next to one. The plan was to build 4 more prisons but they are all stuck in limbo due to spiralling costs, legal objections and recruitment issues. The Army could through something up quickly but wouldn’t have the manpower to monitor. Plus you would get human rights lawyers bringing cases as to occupants well being etc.
in truth, your own echo chamber can only exist in a vacuum. once pressure tolls from outside, suddenly, the noise, YOUR reality and more importantly, the understanding that you are transgressing societal acceptance all conspires to neuter any (imagined) solidarity..
